Understanding Plagiarism

According to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Plagiarism occurs when content is reused without proper attribution to the original creator or without their knowledge. This includes copying ideas, work, or thoughts from others without appropriate credit, whether it is done intentionally or unintentionally. Plagiarism can involve both direct copying and failure to cite sources properly, including material from online resources. It is considered a form of academic dishonesty or fraud, reflecting a failure to generate original ideas and relying on others’ work.

There are various forms of Plagiarism:

Self-Plagiarism: Reusing one’s own previously published work without proper citation.

Unintentional Plagiarism:  Resulting from careless citation or source attribution.

Blatant Plagiarism: Deliberately using someone else’s work without proper credit is considered a serious offense.
