The 4-methyl\/hydroxy benzoic acids (<strong><b>1a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>1b<\/b><\/strong>) were used as starting materials to prepare corresponding esters (<strong><b>2a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>2b<\/b><\/strong>), hydrazides (<strong><b>3a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>3b<\/b><\/strong>), 5-(4-methylphenyl\/4-hydroxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-thiols (<strong><b>4a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>4b<\/b><\/strong>), <em><i>S-<\/i><\/em>substituted esters (<strong><b>5a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>5b<\/b><\/strong>) and acetohydrazides (<strong><b>6a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>6b<\/b><\/strong>). The acetohydrazones, <strong><b>8a-i <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>9a-i<\/b><\/strong>, were synthesized by stirring <strong><b>6a <\/b><\/strong>&amp; <strong><b>6b <\/b><\/strong>with mono(di)substituted phenylcarboxaldehydes (<strong><b>7a-i<\/b><\/strong>) in methanol. The data of IR, 1H-NMR and EIMS spectral techniques well confirmed the structural formulae of synthesized compounds.
