Rehman<\/span><\/h4><p>Department of Botany, University of Karachi, Karachi-75270, Pakistan<\/p><table border=\"0\" width=\"93%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\"><tbody><tr><td align=\"center\" valign=\"top\"><strong>Received<\/strong><br \/>15 Mar, 2012<\/td><td align=\"center\" valign=\"top\"><strong>Accepted<\/strong><br \/>15 Jun, 2012<\/td><td align=\"center\" valign=\"top\"><strong>Published<\/strong><br \/>15 Dec, 2012<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><div class=\"item abstract\"><p align=\"justify\">ABSTRACT:<\/p><p class=\"ql-align-justify\">An experiment was carried out under field conditions to determine the impact of silicon application with different concentrations (20, 40, 60 ppm), on selected physiological characteristics of the leaves of mungbean (<em>Vignaradiata<\/em>) and cowpea (<em>Vigna unguiculata<\/em>) under different 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% soil moisture regimes. Stock solution (100 ppm) of silicon was prepared by MgSi<sub>3\u00a0<\/sub>salt but apply as 20, 40, 60 ppm solution in both treated and control plants. Results showed that silicon application significantly increases total carbohydrate &amp; protein contents in treated samples as compare to control plants. In present study we concluded that silicon promoted growth in the drought susceptible species to greater extent &amp; it\u2019s more beneficial for carbohydrates and protein metabolism of cowpea (<em>Vigna unguiculata<\/em>) as compare to mungbean (<em>Vignaradiata<\/em>) plants.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"item abstract\"><div><h3 class=\"label\">How to Cite this paper?<\/h3><div class=\"csl-entry\"><p><strong>APA-7 Style<\/strong><br \/>Hamid, N., Naz, B., Rehman, A.
